Pathways to Change

November 2023

"This project is a vital resource for anyone interested in the growing field of artists in residence in government. Caroline has compiled previously not connected resources in planning, artist residencies, and government systems that are grounding this growing field. It is clear that we can accomplish a lot with artists and government working in collaboration!"

-Johanna K. Taylor, Co-Founder of CAIR Lab and committee member

Masters Applied Project

This report studies the growing field of Civic Artists in Residence, or artist residencies in government. I conducted a field scan of published literature as well as interviewed 26 field practitioners and non-arts government leaders to identify pathways for building this field of practice.

This project adds to the growing body of evidence that professionals on both sides of these partnerships are invested in positive change in our local governments and prepared to work together to achieve it.
